We are aware of the challenges that many of our students and their families face in accessing health care. To address the needs of our students, we will continue to provide the services of a Nurse Practitioner at Crowe’s Primary Care Clinic.
A licensed Nurse Practitioner with a Master’s Degree in Nursing and a family Nurse Practitioner designation visits JLC every second Thursday. A Nurse Practitioner has an expanded health care role. They can support a range of health concerns such as:
order blood work
treat minor infections
perform pregnancy tests
birth control prescriptions
screen for venereal diseases
initial management and assessment for anxiety and depression
The nurse practitioner at JLC is Ms. Melissa Mailey who holds a Masters in Nursing and is a former graduate of JL Crowe. The clinic is scheduled every Thursday from 9:00 – 11:30 AM in the office health room. Appointments can be made with Child/Youth Care Worker, Mrs. Bridget Ferraro, in room 212 or students can use the QR code posted around the school.
If parents have concerns about whether or not they will be informed about the health care their child is seeking or receiving at this onsite clinic, then they should ask their child not to attend the clinic being held at JLC. The School District will have no information about the services being provided to the youth nor can the school provide information about if/when the child attended the clinic. While the clinic is being hosted at JLC, the school nor the district is responsible for the services being provided within IHA’s onsite clinic. If you have any questions in regards to the clinic, please don’t hesitate to contact the school 250.368.5591, ext. 132.
